As some of you already know, two literary agents and a private publisher are interested in getting our story published. The two agents would have me change the contents of our website drastically to be more readable and printable (and acceptable). The private publisher is interested more in the short stories and poems that appear in our website. First, I know that much of the website material are excerpted from other published (and copyrighted) works and from private journals and personal letters and emails to me. These must be cleared by the authors before they can be entered into the works. Second, I am not prepared to spend long hours on my computer to get this done because of time demands by my children and my other hobbies. I think that this book should be published but it will be very demanding. I am more inclined to self-publish a book based closely on the website and to limit the number to 500 copies. If this is the way it will go then the limited issues will be given to the Squadron members and their families. Lastly, if you would like to add, delete, or edit anything on our website, please email or write those to me. website: www.angelfire.com/de/HMM365Vietnamemail: marinehelicopters@lycos.coms/f del

Del: I think that you have the right idea to do a limited publishing of the events of our tour. Unfortunately letting outsiders getting involved usually results in articles being blown out of proportion. Letting them use the poems, articles, etc., would in my opinion be alright. If there is anything I can do to help you, let me know....... Bert

Having just finished reading the conditions and provisions of a contract offer I will more than likely opt for a limited edition self-published book. The main theme of the book will be of the lives of the men of the Squadron, with the Squadron's Vietnam history as the central background.
My decision was in no small part influenced by a couple of friends who have published. Kregg P.J. Jorgenson Acceptable Loss, MIA Rescue, LRRP Company Command, and Pardon Me, I'm Just Passing Through (we were college English classmates after Vietnam) and Patrick Strong: renown martial artist and martial arts video publisher (a junior high- and high-school classmate from Seattle) related their experience with publishers and from my talking to them convinced myself that the limited edition path is the way to go.
Don't hold your breath, though. The manuscripts are far from complete or organized. Maybe a year and a half or two...maybe.
