Here are some photos that I took at Bill's wake. You head out of Klamath Falls on Oregon Highway 66 and just outside of town you turn left on Weyerhaeuser Road. It's not used much anymore. Once it was the main road to the Weyerhaeuser mill main gate where hundreds of people came and went to the biggest employer in town. Today, the road is less travelled since the mill has almost shut down. The buildings too, like the mill in the background, have fallen into disrepair from abandonment or lack of work. The green duplex to the right is where Bill, known by everyone in town as Willy, lived since he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps. It was a convenient place for Bill to live. Right down the street was the main gate to where he worked. To the left, just outside of the gate, is Toppers Tavern, the local watering hole where Bill would spend his time. Convenient. But when the mill slowed down and workers were let go there was less traffic down that street and so they closed the gate permanently. Bill was one of the workers that was let go. Bill, a few months before he passed away. In the twilight sky, a streak of red, almost like a final signature to the day we said our last goodbye to Bill. Semper Fi, old buddy. Safely rest. God is nigh.
