As a group we can charter a 55-passenger deluxe bus to take us to our destinations in the D.C.-Virginia area.
So far, the best price quoted to me is for use of bus and driver for an 8-hour period to be $800/day. This means that 50 of us share the cost of the bus then it will cost each one of us only $16 a day for transportation to and from our reunion functions.
As you know, we have planned visits to the Marine Museum at Quantico, the Iwo Jima Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial Wall, the Marine Barracks at 8th & I, and the Popasmoke Dinner at the Hilton.
Also, because we will have use of the bus for a full 8 hours, we can go to other non-Marine locations such as the Smithsonian, the Lincoln Memorial, Sleazy Sam's Bar & Grill, or wherever.
I think that $48 ($16x3) for transportation is a good deal. Going by taxi would surely be more expensive than that. And trying to fit a bunch of us into private cars would not be cost effective or practical since our beltlines have increased somewhat since our leaner-and-meaner days.
I need input from the rest of you.

We may only be able to charter a bus for 6 hours at $110 per hour. The bus capacity is 55 pax. $110 x 6 = $660 divided by 55 = $12 each for the bus charter, not including gratuity.
Also, I will rent and contribute the use of a van that will hold 6 pax, other than the driver, and will use it as the squadron staff car.

Del, As we talked, and I think we all agree, Washington is a high cost area and the idea for a bus is a good one. There is no way we could handle rental cars or cabs for such a low price. I was in DC for two weeks last year and it is unbelievable what things cost.
Let me know what to do to help you pull this reunion together. I think as we are all getting older, we need to gather for these reunions and see each other. I was happy to have spent some time with Paul Maynard at the last reunion and with Nick Werve before. They remind us of our own mortality and we need these reunions to talk and make peace with each other because we could be next on the list.
GO FOR IT! Mario Aguirre The Chief.

We have contracted to have a charter bus at our disposal for Squadron activities for Friday, August 15. The bus capacity is 55 (people, not age). Priority seating will be given to Squadron members and guest who attend the entire Squadron program (ie, the private Squadron tour of Washington/Arlington, photo shoot at Iwo Jima statue, Squadron Dinner, and Marine Barracks Evening Parade). Please contact me by email at marinehelicopters@lycos.com or post it on this forum for seat reservations on the bus. s/f del
