I received this email from Jerry Ray's daughter on 1/1/2009:
Dear Sir,
My family and I just found this website. My father was Staff Sergeant Jerry T. Ray. My father passed away on August 24, 1974 in an automobile crash. I was only 14 months old, so needless to say, I never really knew him. I want to tell you how much this website means to me, my mother, my brother, and my sister. This brought us a little piece of him back. It has helped me to know of his life during his time in the Marines. I knew he was a proud soldier, but I never knew what his life was like Your website has now given me this chance. I am also able to share this with my own children and show them what a great man their grandfather was. I would like to thank you on behalf of my entire family. You have given us so much.
Laurie Williams
Semper Fi, Ray, and God rest your soul. You were a great Marine. del Rosario

i thank your for your post. i have often wondered what happened to sgt. ray. i flew with him as his first mech and gunner on a lot of missions. he was a true gentleman and i am sad to hear that he died so young and that you didn't get the chance to know him as i did. i learned how to be a flying marine from him. he was as cool and calm as any i ever knew while maintaining a terrific sense of humor. i never heard a cross word from him nor the fowl language that marines and sailors are famous for. may he rest in peace. if you are a mind to, contact me directly as i have a couple of photos you may want to see.
