Got a call from Bill Bloomfield and the UH-34D of Allen Weiss is available for the ceremony. Only trouble is we still have to come up with about $2500 to get that helicopter down and back from New York. So far pledges have been received from Bill Bloomfield, Henry Heinzerling, Gene Rainville, Bob Androlevich, George Boemerman, and me. Also we have a pledge for the fuel requirement, which is the biggest funding hurdle.
Bob Androlevich is going to do the ground work to clear the permission for the H-34 to get into MCAS New River. Bill Bloomfield is coordinating the funding. Allen Weiss will get the bird ready if the funding comes through.
If anyone can contribute to the fund to get the helicopter to the ceremony, contact Bill Bloomfield at 817-447-7193.

Just got off the phone with Bob Androlevich and he'd just talked to the incoming XO of VMM-365 and the XO said that he would be glad to clear the UH-34D for the ceremony.
It's getting together. We still need pledges.

LtCol Steve Conroy (incoming XO of VMM365) is going to co-ordinate the command permission and the support needed at MCAS New River. He will deal directly with Alan Weiss on the details. All we have to do is come up with the funds to pay for the fuel and maintenance, which is estimated at $7500 for the round trip for the bird. Alan is also talking with Moriarity to see if he can provide any support. So far, people that I have contacted are listed below, but have only been working this since 1030 this morning. Hopefully, we will have more folks sign on with some support. If you can fit it into your budget---great. If you can't---that's alright, too. Hope to see as many there as can make it. Happy New Year to all and Semper Fidelis, Y'all Wild Bill Art Sifuentes of Marine Corps Aviation Assoc. $1500 Bill Bloomfield, Henry Heinzerling, Bob Androlevich, Del Rosario Frank Bermudez Mariano Aguirre Gene Rainville So far the pledges are somewhere north of $3200, but the tin cup is still out there! Two weeks and counting.

I received this email from Al Weiss, 1/2/2009: del Al Weiss with the H34 Just wanted to mention I have been reading your messages on both Popasmoke and 365's about trying to get the H34 to the Stand Up. Wanted to mention maybe some of the guys who are donating work for or retired from companies who have matching donations. Since we are a 501c3 not for profit many companies offer the matching donations. Really sorry to make you guys round up the funds but we are almost broke ourselves. Adding two more names to the donor list: Will Reeves Ben Johnson If anyone who can not make it to the stand up wants to donate to the cause, they can send me a check made out to: MHS 361 Veterans Association, Inc. I will get the funds to Alan Weiss. This is a 501c3 not for profit veterans organization and some companies have matching policies. Our total funds pledged now are at $4600. We CAN do this. Thanks to those who are pledged already, but see if you can find others who may be able to donate, but just haven't gotten the word yet as to the necessity. Thanks again, Y'all. Here's the latest email from Bill Bloomfield that I received this morning (1/4/09): Hey y'all, Here she is with the full story of the restoration. Bureau Number 150570 was one of HMM-365's "Stinger" Gunships, and also flew with HMM-161 during 1966 before we disbanded. Quite a story, and a bunch of dedication restoring her to flight status. I know that we enjoyed seeing her fly at Quantico during this years Popasmoke Reunion, and now with the 'Standup' of HMM-365 to the "Osprey" Aircraft series as VMM-365 am looking forward to seeing her fly again at MCAS New River on January 15, 2009. Brings back some great, as well as some not so great, memories. Mostly great, though. To bad we haven't been able to figure out the YM side number. Am looking forward to seeing all who can make the ceremony. Will see you there. www.34restoration.org/PDF-Files/WarbirdMagazineArticle.pdf Semper Fi, Y'all Wild Bill

The plan is to have all the plank-holders and Vietnam members at the UH-34D prior to the Changeover so that we can take photos.
Also, there is a possibility of us flying in the UH-34D around the base.
