As the HMM-365 designation fades into history this coming January 15, so, too, will the Squadron Colors be rolled up and to never again be unfurled in active duty.
I was talking to Mike Comola and Gene Rainville (unfortunately neither will be at the Changeover) and the idea came up that we of HMM-365 Vietnam should make a claim for the keeping of the retired HMM-365 Colors. We are the only group who actively keep the spirit of the Squadron alive. We also are the only group who keep squadron memorabilia. As a matter of fact, no other HMM-365 group exists other than us.
Would it be appropriate for us to claim the Colors for safekeeping? If so, then the senior member of our group present at the Changeover should receive the Colors and then place it in our foot locker.
The official colors should be the Guidon with Battle Ribbons and Unit Awards.
